The highest resort in the Lech – Zurs region and also the most upmarket, Zurs am Arlberg sits high on the exposed Flexen Pass on the way into Lech am Arlberg. Ski buses as well as bus services after the lifts have closed run the ca. 4km by road between Zurs and Lech. Accommodation is generally very good to extremely high end and much of it is either ski-in, ski-out or certainly slope-side. Skiing takes place on both sides of the resort and the snow record in Zurs am Arlberg is second only to Warth in the entire Alps.
Zurs am Arlberg has many high end hotels and chalets offering sumptuous comfort and facilities. Unlike Lech am Arlberg, there are few facilities outside of the accommodation. Most hotels have bars that are open to the public so it is the case that many people in Zurs am Arlberg will stroll between hotel bars in the evenings. For shopping and a further range of facilities, Lech am Arlberg is located ca. 4km down the valley with taxis and a bus service connecting the 2 resorts. Walking between the resorts is not really practical like it is between Zug and Lech.
Generally speaking the Zurs am Arlberg section of the Lech – Zurs ski area offers a greater amount of more demanding skiing in terms of both ski routes and on-piste skiing. The skiing takes place on both sides of the valley and resort and the main road in Zurs is straddled with ski bridges. From Zurs it is possible to start in the western section of the ski area, ski into Zug, on into Lech and then back round into the Zurs ski area. This ski route which broadly follows the famous ‘White Ring’ ski circuit is a must for anyone staying in Zurs with a reasonable level of intermediate skiing.
